Lyrics
FULL THROTTLE
My father raced cars and motorcycles on ice
The engine was God and speed his religion
Never out of earshot of his master’s voice he practiced his religion every day
He was a Mopar man speed demon and a railroad engineer
From Boston to Maine he piloted the train
Through the Hoosic Tunnel and through Ludlow
When he came homel I’d stand on his shoes and he’d dance me around the yellow kitchen
He was famous in town and parts all around for kneeling on the throttle
When my mother rode with him ohhh she stared at her knees
‘cause if she looked up she got sick to her gut
He seemed to part traffic like a razor
He was a Mopar man speed demon and a railroad engineer
The neighbors brought their car well they left them in our yard
He could fix them he had all the parts
Engines hung from trees like crucifixions and he tended each like a surgeon on a heart
He was a Mopar man speed demon and a railroad engineer
One night full of liquor a woman had a fight with her man
Well she parked her car on the railroad tracks right on my father’s route home
Hid behind a curve he just didn’t see her in time no he just didn’t see her in time
It was late in his career and he retired soon after
But a piece of him would never be the same
Driving home from Florida to Rhode Island on his 750 Yamaha
Well he met up with a blizzard on the road
He cut through that storm like a blade
Well he only fell down a few times but it wasn’t the snow
He was a Mopar man speed demon and a railroad engineer
He died at sixty-nine oh left a holy mess behind
And his parting words his parting words were these
Oh I’d love to yeah I’d love to get my foot on the throttle
What my father loved, what my father loved was the sacred blur of speed
Whipping around the family still life and paying the law no heed
He was a Mopar man speed demon and a railroad engineer
He was a Mopar man speed demon and a railroad engineer
